With work from 2600 designers, covering just about every area in our society, Dutch Design Week (DDW) kicks up some dust for debate and delivers food for thought. Here we present you a daily overview of talks, debates, and seminars at DDW.

DDW Talks | Craft & New Materials

The Craft & New Materials Talk brings you back to the essence of design, showing you examples of material research and new craft techniques: both on an experimental level as well as large scale applications for the industry. Keynote speakers of this event are: Marijke Griffioen (Forbo), Lawrence Theunissen (DSM) and material designers Tamara Orjola, Delany Boutkan and Audrey Large. The event is moderated by Oli Stratford (Disegno Magazine). This programme is created in collaboration with content partners Crafts Council Netherlands and Ma-tt-er, mediapartner Disegno Magazine and businesspartner DSM. All DDW Talks are English Spoken.

BioArt Laboratories | The Green Illusion

Energy transition and circularity are ‘hot’. High time to distinguish between facts and fiction, and check whether electric cars and biofuels really contribute to CO2 reduction. Maarten van Andel challenges people to think outside the box. In a lively interactive presentation, he sheds light on the facts and fiction of sustainable energy and circular economy.

Philips Museum | Transforming Primary Healthcare in Kenya

Design Talk by Reon Brand. Philips Experience Design was asked by the Kenya SDGPP to facilitate a design-thinking driven approach with the goal to accelerate the transformation of primary healthcare in Kenya. The Philips Experience Design led one of the largest Design Thinking Co-creation sessions.

Symposium | The problem of the building

Philosophical questions concerning architecture and the city. The quality of our built environment tends to encourage lively debate. We're all stakeholders. Come and listen to Elma van Boxel and Kristian Koreman of ZUS and to Bernard Colenbrander of the TU Eindhoven as well as many others.

New Light | Philosophical considerations/talks

Sarai van de Boel gives a philosophical reflection on the New Light exhibition at Studio Sarai at three moments during Dutch Design Week. It is an interactive conversation with visitors in which she takes a closer look at the phenomenon of light.
