DDW20 is in full swing! Of course, the festival will take place entirely online this year, but with a well-filled programme full of TV shows and live streams. Here we give you a daily overview of what you can see on DDW TV. We also include several Livestreams, but make sure to explore the online programme for more!

DDW TV

For starters…

We start off each day with ‘For starters...’, a programme in which design journalist and connoisseur Jeroen Junte (Editor in Chief DesignDigger) will talk with emerging talents and familiar faces from the design field. The physical DDW may not take place, but Jeroen ensures that all Design Areas still make an appearance. For example, Bernhard Lenger will join on behalf of Campina, Lucas de Man on behalf of Strijp-S, Piet Hein Eek on behalf of Strijp T+R and so on. Of course, there is also plenty of room for the virtual programme. As a committee member of Dutch Design Awards, Jeroen will also give a daily wake-up call to the DDA winner of the previous day. In short, a dynamic start to your online DDW visit!

Class of 2020: Minerva

DDW invited all Dutch design schools to put together an exhibition on the theme of The New Intimacy. Each school approached this in its own way. Some chose to curate a special new expo and others more a collection of graduates. All exhibitions together show the unique and high quality of Dutch design education. Each school has its own emphasis, its own signature, and that is reflected in the exhibition. When the physical DDW stopped, five of the participating schools decided to show their physical installation in the schools. In the upcoming videos you will see that work passes by, with explanations by students and curators.

DDW Talks: Future Cities

When we discuss Future Cities we often think of buildings made of glass and steel, whether or not in a park-like setting, or futuristic transport systems with drones or fast cars. But when we tell a story about a city we've just visited, we rarely talk only about the physical part. We talk about atmosphere and identity, about experience. People make the city, they react to their surroundings and to each other. If you look at future cities from the point of view of the desired experience, what does that mean for the use of space, the design of public space, the creation of services and for the ownership structures in the city? How do we want to experience the city? Erna van Holland looks for the answers in conversation with Floor Milikowski (journalist and geographer), Nadia Menkveld (sector economist ABNAmro), Paul Kuipers (intervention architect) and Renée Scheepers (experience architect).

Food: Lokaal versus internationaal

Climate change of course also lies in limiting the transport of food. In recent decades, a large-scale international infrastructure has been developed in which many different components for the daily meal from different corners of the world have been developed. world came. This has a disastrous impact on the climate. In addition, the intimate connection between local food production and what's on the plate has disappeared. What is the role of the designer to change this? What initiatives are there to (re)introduce local food production? Can it initiate a change bring?

Just This Space-ship - Just This DDW Friend-ship

What if all forms of (free) labor were recognised? What if we were really decolonised? What if steady effort took over urgency? What if we could rest? Inspired by the North African 'qaada' or hammams, Just This Spaceship is a platform and toolkit which mediates a space for this culture to grow within artistic and epistemic structures.
Quick tip before we ride together: Space is big, very big, but a space-ship is limited, and ours is very cosy. We have a zero tolerance policy for infectious galactic diseases such as white supremacy, trans-phobia, ableism or islamophobia. Space is very big, don't end up out here all alone.
