What's new at DDW?

05 October 2021

3 min. to read

DDW is back in Eindhoven after the virtual edition. And how! Throughout the city, we can again enjoy special projects and exciting designs. This year there are several new things compared to other years. We list the changes for you!

New: Entrance and corona

Buy your ticket for DDW21 now online, or buy a wristband at one of the ticket locations in Eindhoven. This gives you 9 days of unlimited access to the paid DDW locations:

  • Klokgebouw
  • Things that Matters @Microlab Hall
  • Graduation Show Design Academy Eindhoven @Beursgebouw
  • Van Abbemuseum
  • Sectie-C
  • Dutch Invertuals @Fuutlaan
  • Cabinet of Collaborations @Fuutlaan
  • Kazerne – Home of Design
  • New Order of Fashion Lab
  • Philips Museum

And what about corona restrictions? Testing for access is, in principle, not necessary for the official DDW locations with exhibitions. Are you visiting a venue inside or outside? Or are you going to a workshop, lecture or something else that makes you stay in one place for a longer time? Then a coronavirus entry pass is mandatory. You can find more information about COVID-19 on the special COVID page.

New: Transport

Especially for DDW visitors, Hermes sells a DDW Day Ticket with which you can travel all day for € 5 from 09.00 hours with Hermes line buses in Eindhoven and surroundings. This bus ticket is valid for 1 day. You can only order this DDW Day Ticket online via the Hermes website, and it is not for sale at the Central Station or on the bus itself. After payment, you will receive a QR code via e-mail, which you can scan on your phone or print out and ask the bus driver to scan it. Check Getting Around for more info about transportation in and around DDW.

New: Locations

TU/e campus
This year, you can also visit the TU/e campus in the Station area. They are also celebrating an anniversary this year, as the Technical University Eindhoven exists 65 years. They will celebrate this under the name Heroes of Change, with amongst others the exhibition Drivers of Change.

De Caai
What used to be known as the Campinafabriek is now called De Caai. Here you will find Manifestations, Foundation We Are, Embassy of Food, etc.

Microlab Hall
This year, you can no longer visit VEEM during DDW. But Microlab Hall at Strijp-S is an official DDW location. Here you'll also find a ticket desk.

Fuutlaan Hall
The areas Centre and Station participate again this year. A great new location in this area is Fuutlaan Hall.

From BioArt Laboratories to Plan B, Hallenweg and Sectie-C - you can also visit all the other significant, well-known locations this year.

Ambassadors & the theme

Never before have the ambassadors of DDW been linked to the theme of the week. Christien Meindertsma, for example, set to work on Things that matter. And It's in our nature includes the work of Natsai Audrey Chieza. The labyrinth of Floris Alkemade reflects on the central theme, The Greater Number.

New: Embassy of Inclusive society

We are adding a new embassy! The Embassy of Inclusive Society is a plea for a more diverse and inclusive design field. A petition for a greater number of designers with diverse and inclusive backgrounds.

Academies

The Graduation expo of Design Academy Eindhoven is in a new place: the Beursgebouw. All other academies gather under the name Class of 2021 in the Klokgebouw.

DDW TV

Every day from 19:00 - 20:30, we'll stream a new episode of DDW TV. In this episode, we'll update you on the ins and outs of design. And every day, we also announce a Dutch Design Awards winner. DDW TV is presented by Brecht van Hulten.
