Dutch Design Week theme announced: If not us, then who?

05 September 2018

With just under seven weeks to go until the opening, the 17th edition of Dutch Design Week (DDW) is starting to really take shape. Today the theme is revealed, and part of the programme is on the all-new website, that is organised as a content platform for design.

Theme: If not us, then who?
Almost everything in the world has been or is being designed. This offers opportunities, but with this come enormous responsibilities; for designers, but also for policy makers, clients, users and governments. The world belongs to us all. Director Martijn Paulen explains about the role of designers: ‘Designers think up solutions, create innovations, are pioneers, make things tangible and functional. They look at their surroundings and the world in a unique way. “How could it be different, better?” And to these questions designers continually supply authentic and surprising answers. It is up to us all to embrace and stimulate these creative solutions, and that includes you. If not you, then who? Together we decide how the world will look. Now it’s our turn; If not us, then who?’

Content platform
In cooperation with digital design agency Vruchtvlees (The Hague) Dutch Design Week launches a new content platform; a website that innovates throughout the year, highlighting experimentation and cross-overs within design. With for example background articles, interviews, news items, videos and podcasts – from and for designers and experts in the field of design. In the run-up to and during the event the programme will be the central theme: the website ensures optimum signposting of the wide range on offer. Simultaneously creating more space for tips from experts, including the ambassadors. The first part of the programme is online from September.

DDW Music Festival
Again, this year the event will be accompanied by a fully-fledged music programme. During the DDW Music Festival more than 90 national and international artists will be performing on stages across the city. From a pianist at Piet Hein Eek to Thai funk in the Effenaar, and from folk in one of the city’s oldest cafes to house at the Fuutlaan. A DDW Festival ticket gives access to all DDW and DDW Music Festival hotspots (specials excepted).

Ticket sales live
The ticket sales for the 17th edition of DDW is live on the all new website. This year you will have a choice of tickets; in addition to a DDW festival ticket there is also a DDW basic, DDW Premium and a DDW professional ticket. See www.ddw.nl/tickets for more information and how to order tickets.
