Symbiotic Generation

Co-creation between human and AI

As AI generates strange yet inspiring depictions of the human-plant relationship, the designer steps back, serving as a tool to help bring AI's creative visions to life.

🌵

This relief, created in 2023 during the early days of generative AI, documents how AI (specifically Stable Diffusion) interprets the human-nature relationship through images generated using the keywords "human" and "plants." The resulting images displayed something unexpected and unusual—depictions such as human figures growing from their bodies in the logic of plants—where familiar elements were reassembled into entirely new forms by the AI.

Recognizing the AI's creative agency, the designer shifted her role from creator to medium/tool. She translated these images into precise 3D-printed objects, bringing the AI's vision into human reality and offering a glimpse into the emerging world of generative AI.
