For the past three years, the city of Eindhoven has hosted an in-depth programme during Dutch Design Week. The aim is to use design to tackle complex issues. This year, the focus is on the city's rapid growth and how it impacts social cohesion.
Exploring connections
Commissioned by the municipality of Eindhoven, Studio Mieke Meijer and De Ruimdenkers designed an installation that encourages conversations with local citizens about how people connect with one another. This installation delves into informal structures, or networks, that shape people’s day-to-day lives and how they link to broader networks, such as those within your neighbourhood.
Questions like "Who knows whom?", "How do you encounter each other?", and "Who would you like to meet more often?" are at the heart of this exploration. If we gain insight into this, what opportunities does this present to enhance the sense of belonging in the neighborhood, district, or even the city as a whole? This field research was conducted in August and September in the Eindhoven districts of Meerhoven and Erp (Mensfort).
