1 in 6 adults in the Netherlands have difficulty reading and writing. This can have major adverse effects on quality and expectation of life, employment and general well-being. The Anti-Text Café is designed to create awareness about low literacy through experience.
Welcome @ Anti-Text Café
In the Anti-Text Café, work and communication is done without written language. Connection is key and everyone feels welcome. All text in the café is replaced by alternative means of communication. This concept turns a few things around. Instead of focusing on the challenge, the focus is on fun.
The goal is to engage in conversation on the topic of low literacy in a setting that is comfortable for the target audience. In this way, people without difficulty reading and writing are connected with people who do have difficulty with this and we take low literacy as a topic out of the taboo. There is also room for a delicious Bakkie040 coffee.
Bakkie040 on the ketelhuisplein is provided by Springplank, a social organization that helps people get back on their feet when they are in difficult times.
