Shaping Conversations: Ceramics and Social Dialogue

Tessa and Kyungmi use ceramics to question social issues. Tessa addresses racism and cultural appropriation, while Kyungmi examines labor paradigms and copyright through contemporary perspective. Their work challenges perceptions and sparks dialogue on modern issues.

Race,women,contemporary labor and Clay

Tessa and Kyungmi explore contemporary social issues through ceramics. Tessa uses diverse clay tones to represent women from different racial, addressing themes like racism and post-colonialism. She deconstructs binary concepts such as "us versus them" and "good versus bad," focusing on racial representation and gender dynamics. Her work fosters empathy and reflection through visual dialogues.

Tessa questions whether it is appropriate for a white Dutch woman to sculpt faces of people of color, addressing sensitive issues of cultural appropriation and ethical representation. She carefully navigates these challenges, raising deep questions about identity and empathy.

Kyungmi experiments with live-streaming and ceramic labor, using participants' comments as material to create ceramic objects. This approach raises questions about the shifting labor paradigms in the context of open-source production. Kyungmi critically explores issues of copyright and craftsmanship, questioning who owns the objects and whether she can still be considered an artisan.

Together, their work challenges perceptions, sparking discussions on modern issues and creating a dialogue that reflects society's matter
