The Future of Craft

Exploring the intersection of traditional crafts and future technologies through speculative design.

Inspired by a sci-fi story I co-wrote with AI, this project is set in an utopian 2204 and delves into craftsmanship, material research, and innovative design. The project presents four physical outfits and two digital works, each representing a unique character from the story.

Project Statement

The characters exhibited from the sci-fi story, such as ‘The Shepardess of Memories’, ‘The Robot Therapist’, ‘The Fabric Accountant’, ‘The Circular Culinary Innovator’, ‘The Digital Concierge’ and ‘The Virtual Fashion Designer’, embody themes of traditional weaving, zero waste, 3D weaving, bioplastic innovation and digital fashion. Each outfit reflects a narrative linked to the research, from craft to advanced technology. Through these personas, the project highlights serious issues such as sustainable design and circular materials with lightness and humour.

This journey through craft history and future potential aims to inspire a new understanding of fashion’s role in a sustainable future, where tradition and innovation create a dynamic and harmonious blend.
