Finding an EMPTY SPACE

Experience a sense of tranquillity within the embrace of these visual artworks, that highlight the value of analog in a chaotic, ever-changing world.

Sebastián Andrés Vis invites you to explore a sense of tranquillity with his installation ‘Finding an EMPTY SPACE’. Through typewritten artworks, he challenges the dominance of digital media, highlighting the value of analog in a chaotic, ever-changing world.

The Typewriter

Whether you like it or not; everything changes and the world is chaotic, weird, and incomprehensible. Yet, here we are! All breathing, reading project descriptions, and sometimes typing behind typewriters.

I'm Sebastián Andrés Vis and I find working with a typewriter meditative, frustrating, and very satisfying. It’s the sounds of the keys, the rolling of the paper, and the rewinding of the carriage. The way you can softly press the keys or SMASH THEM IN.

Besides the time-consuming work process and its sensitivity to mistakes, the typewriter offers a grid where creation might be limited but therefore feels limitless. We are at a time where books and newspapers are in a fight with their cheaper counterpart: digital media, which is slowly taking over more and more of our lives.

The Experience

The project ‘Finding an EMPTY SPACE’ is a multifaceted experience, combining installation, publication, and performance. Through the medium of typewritten concrete poetry, the installation invites you to explore a sense of tranquillity within an imagined, non-physical empty space. Surrounded by visual compositions, you are drawn into the world of analog typewriter art, where the simplicity and quietude of the process offer a peaceful escape from the noise of the digital age.
