Mabayn Athnayn, Inbetween

Research of the Third Space

Through photographic work in Morocco, Olfa Rachdi explores her French-Moroccan cultural hybridity, working within her interpretation of the “Third Space”.

Theory of the Third Space

For Rachdi, it is a space that emerges when oriental and occidental cultures interact, challenging mono-cultural identities and allowing for the reinterpretation of their imagery.

Conceptualization

In “Mabayn Athnayn, Inbetween,” Rachdi distorts her photography of Morocco and screen prints it onto leather, layering them to display the intersectional lens of her mixed cultural heritage. In expressing her full nuanced self, it explores the complexities of identity in contemporary society.

About Olfa Rachdi

From France and the Maghreb, Olfa Rachdi imbues her visual language with both European and North African references. Her projects call for looking at these through different lenses: interdisciplinary work being essential to the construction of her ideas.
